In Memorial Since our 60th Class Reunion (2020)

Our Class has been fairly lucky since we graduated in May 1960, we have lost relatively few of our classmates.   Since our 50th Class Reunion we have said goodby to about one member a year.   But as we all age those numbers are increasing, sad to say.

Since our last Class Reunion the following are those who have passed away.   I previously listed them on the intro or index page for this web site, but now the list is getting far too long and it will probably not let up in the foreseeable future.   I have attempted to include the obituaries to help us remember that person and their families since in many cases we have not talked to or seen them in years.

Sandra "Sandy" Susan Wilcox, age 78 of Beardstown, died Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at her home.   She was born November 20, 1942 in Beardstown, the daughter of Edward and Olive Southwell Smith.   She married John B. "Johnny" Wilcox on March 1 1959 and he preceded her in death on September 6, 2015.

She is survived by two children Cindia (husband Steve) Smith of Beardstown and Scott Dale (wife Teresa) Wilcox of Greeville, SC; seven grandchildren Lora Barron, David and Abigail Barron, Sarah and Dakota Smith, and Parker and Nicky Wilcox; four greatgrand children Wlizabeth "Betsy" Tangman, Lily Barron, Maddox Cluney and Stevie Smith; three sisters Ruth (wife Dee Richardson) Smith of Torrance, CA, Marie Bunker of Redondo Beach, CA, and Mary Smith of Evansville, IN; two brothers Victor (wife Niki) Smith of Frederick and Burr Smith of Beardstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son John Wilcox, two brothers, Nolan Lorenzo "Lanny" Smith and Edward Mitchell Smith, and a foster brother, Johnny Aten.

Sandy was in the Beardstown Alumni Class of 1960 after earning her GED.   She was first a wife and mother but also a savy businesswoman earning many awards with her ability to sell Avon for decades.   She enjoyed the great outdoors and had a love for music; playing the bass guitar and signing alongside her husband or just jamming with the gang.   She had a talent for baking and decorating cakes, making ekderberry salve, and composing a family cookbook.   She also answered to the name Nanny Goat, or you might have known Sandy and her husband as "Waterbug" and "Trader" on the CB radio.   Sandy will be greatly missed by all those she leaves behing.

Cremetation rites have been accorded.  No formal services will be held.   Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice.  Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Coldwell Memorial Home.
